At the RIPE@2016 conference in Antwerp, the Journalism Research Center participated in two working groups on the future of public service media.
On September 23, Nicole Gonser and Gisela Reiter attended the working group “Interaction, Social Media and Personalized Media Use”. Their presentation with the title “Digital Natives and Public Service Media. Attitudes, evaluations and expectations on PSM in Austria” focused on the needs and expectations of young audiences. Findings were based on semi-structured interviews that had been conducted within the MA23 project “Public Value goes international”.
At the same time, Markus Grammel and Johann Gründl joined the working group “Redefined Remit in the Networked Society” to present an analysis of quantitaive data from Austria and Germany on “Public Service Media and willingness to pay in networked societies”. It was the first time that the Research Center shared results from their quantitative online survey supported by the Vienna Municipal Department 23 for Economic Affairs, Labour and Statistics (MA23).
RIPE is a biannual conference which deals with pressing issues in the field of public service media. It brings together academics and representatives of public and private media organizations.
