At the international conference of ECREA2016 (European Communication Research and Education Association) in Prague, Gisela Reiter of the Journalism Research Center presented a poster with results of a long-term study amongst young Austrian journalism students.
From 9th to 12th of November 2016, the prestigious ECREA2016 with the focus on “Mediating (Dis)Continuities: Contesting Pasts, Presents and Futures” took place in the congress center of Prague, Czech Republic. The Journalism Research Center participated with the poster “The Two Faces of Young Journalists: A Long-Term Study of Austrian Journalism Students Focusing on Changes in Self-Image and the Discrepancy Between Media Usage and Future Work Area“ with results of the “Nachwuchskompass” gathered in the years 2011, 2013 and 2015. The online questionnaire amongst Bachelor and Master students at the Department of Journalism & Media Management contained questions about useful skills for future journalists and the general image of the profession as well as own media usage and claimed future working area.
The conference provided the opportunity to get new insights and inspiration about the manifold academic aspects in communication research and was also used to stay in touch with our international project partners within the MA23 project “Public Value goes international”. Almost 1400 delegates from 58 countries participated at the ECREA 2016 and they presented 711 individual papers, 111 posters and 52 panels. Find more information and pictures of the conference here.
