Oliver Ortner (ORF 2 Channelmanagement) was guest speaker on March 18th 2019 at the new lecture series initiated by the study area “Journalism and Mediamanagement”
„Media Literacy vs. Fake News – Coverage of the EU Elections by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF)“ was the title of the discussion between Oliver Ortner (ORF 2 Channelmanagement), Konrad Mitschka (ORF Public Value Competence Center) and Gisela Reiter (Teaching & Research Associate at FHWien of WKW) about questions dealing with media politics and challenges for quality media in Austria. The focus was on editorial decisions especially for news media coverage like “Zeit im Bild” (ZIB) and new media offerings for younger user groups provided by public service media.
This second Public Value Lecture also happened in the course of the European Media Literacy Week. The initiative of the European Commission aims to underline the social importance of Media literacy in an increasingly digitalized media landscape and to support projects dealing with that topic. In one week (from March 18th to 22nd 2019) about 200 events dealing with Media literacy took place, an overview and further information can be found here.
